First of all, thank you so much for your flexibility and understanding last week when I was so sick. If you watched the online video and would like to be reimbursed, please send me your receipt. Thanks!
I have some personal news to share with everyone. My sister's husband was diagnosed with stage 4b liver cancer a couple months ago and he passed away this last Saturday surrounded by family members. While his initial cancer diagnosis was bleak, he declined much more rapidly than we expected. This sister and her 5 sons live in Cincinnati and it has been really hard being so far away during this hard time. I will be traveling for his funeral, but these travels will not interfere with any of our future Blue Bugs classes.
Because of all this I am feeling the need to simplify our end of year celebrations for Let's Play Music. We will not have a studio end-of-year program on May 3rd as the calendar indicates. Instead of the program, we are going to celebrate each class individually during our last class together, lesson 15, on April 28th. During this celebration each child (with as-needed assistance from their grown-up) will get to play one of their favorite songs on the bells from either the Red Balloons or Blue Bugs semesters. They'll also have the option of playing on the autoharp! I will be sending out individual texts to each of you in the next few days with ideas of songs that you and your child can pick.
I look forward to seeing each of you next week for parent day! Bring tote bags with bells and homework booklets.
The Ants Go Marching
Marching to this fun song helps us learn to keep a steady beat. We also reviewed the cadence pattern SOL LA TI DO. Repetition is key to training the ear!
Baby Butterfly
This song is hard to get out of your head once you start singing it. This activity is designed to help the students identify bug rhythms and rhythmic patterns in the songs they are singing. In class we went on a bug hunt!
We have been using solfege for a while now. If your child needs more exposure to help them remember the hand signs, read part 3 of this series of blog posts.
Turn on this fun video of the "Ants Go Marching" and have your kids act out the catchy nursery rhyme! An added bonus...it's great exercise!
