For the first time this year the students participated in their first melodic dictation exercise. I played a few notes and they wrote them on the staff! This is quite an impressive skill they are beginning to develop - listening to the melody going up/down, baby stepping or skipping.
Other fun class happenings included: kids playing a C major scale on their own (I let them pick playing just RH, LH, or BHT and which bug they wanted to play), we discovered that the Turkey in the Straw melody is much easier to sing when transposed to F major (and they need to play a B-flat), and we intelligently listened to all the variations of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by noticing the differences from the main theme.
Please remember that there is no class next week! Have a fun Halloween holiday and we'll see you on Nov. 5th.
Turkey in the Straw
This repertoire piece will have us playing the melody in the right hand and NOW the left hand as well. It will also give us another opportunity to practice our transposing. Your student is doing some pretty impressive stuff!!!
Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. Our Let's Play Music Blog has some fun ideas for a few Turkey extras your whole family can enjoy!
