Class was fun on Tuesday! I got to tell the kids a fun story to help them learn new musical symbols: the flat, sharp and natural! You should have them tell you the fun way we say these symbols with our voices and bodies. :) Since flat, sharp and natural are new, the homework booklet will remind you to add the flat, sharp and natural signs to your flashcards.
A couple notes about piano playing this week:
1. C Major Cadence - they get to play this marching style this week. If your child feels overwhelmed with this new variation, have them play the chord block style to remember the shape and finger numbers. Then remind them that marching style is the bottom note first, then the top notes together.
2. Caterpillar Cousins - they get to try this song with both hands this week! If your kiddo is struggling with this, it may help to point at the notes with V fingers (pointing at both the treble and bass clef line with your index and middle finger) while saying the note names, which are the same for RH and LH. "C's....D's....E's....F's....etc." You can also remind them of playing "Hickory Dickory Dock" in Yellow Arrows when we played both C's at the same time and both G's. Now we're doing all the notes in C Position! Take it slow and steady!
If you would like visuals on both of the above concepts, check out the play at home videos!
Flat, Sharp and Natural Game
We won't just learn the names of these terms and how they work, we use our bodies and our voices to truly internalize and understand how each of these terms can affect any of our regular music alphabet white keys.
Our Bugs Are So Fun
Your student is now ready to recognize rhythm notation using 'real' note names and counting terms. This song will help keep that fun!
