Parent Day
Parents come next week! I plan to start right at 4:30 or 5:45 (depending on which class you are in) so please do your best to be on time. I'm emphasizing this because I will be ending a few minutes early for stamping homework booklets and letting this kids spend some of their music money in a mini-store. See you then! :)
Flashcards
We’ll be adding new note flashcards on during next class, so now’s the time to make sure your student really has a handle on the Treble Clef Space Notes (F-A-C-E). It will be much easier for them to learn new notes if they’re already really good at identifying the old ones.
Practice (or as I prefer to say, "Playing at home!")
Do your best to encourage your children to get 5 practices in every week! If they aren't practicing this much, they may start to get behind during 3rd year. (You can use the incentive that they'll get THREE music money if they just get one extra on even one song!) Please reach out to me if you are having struggles with practice and I'd be happy to give ideas or help in any way I can.
Play at Home Videos
I plan to get a few more videos uploaded this by this evening (how to find flats and sharps, playing hands together for Bounce & Roll, and lines 3 and 4 of Alouette). Thank you for your patience!
Alouette
This song is jam packed with opportunities for musical development. We will further develop our sight reading skills (playing something we have never seen before), stretch our experience with playing intervals, encounter rhythmic reading and learn more about the classical ABA (ternary) form with our fingers instead of JUST our ears. And you thought it was just a fun song you remember singing as a kid, huh?
We also learned about the repeat sign this week and how it makes us 'repeat' something in the music. Here's a fun dance you could do with your child to help them remember to 'dot dot do it again.'
[Re, Sol, Do!]
I value open and honest communication so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.
Thank you!
