Wow! What a fun lesson #6. Everyone that I met with got a nice start to their piece. We had a lot of fun! It was such a joy to hear them express their ideas about things they really like or experiences they've enjoyed and then translating that into music using skills they've been working on for the past two and half years! I feel like every student felt successful and happy with the start they created.
Each kid got to take home the start of their composition. Our compositions are not finished yet so encourage your child to keep working and imagining how they'd like to finish it, including deciding on a title if they haven't yet. They may also express wanting to make changes and that's fine. But now that we have something on paper, encourage your student to continue practicing what they've written so far. I will be sending an individual video to each of you with the computer program playing it so you can help them if needed. (Some kids were very interested in very high/low notes or have interesting chords so having a visual for where those notes are can be helpful.) Please let me know if you need any help helping your child learn their composition so far!
I'll see your kids next week on Tuesday the 25th at our normal class time. If you haven't yet, please fill out my Summer Camp Survey! I would love your valuable feedback. Thanks!
Watch this video of a young prodigy composer who pulls four musical notes out of hat, improvising and composing a piano sonata in under a minute.
