Class was fun this week! We played the A minor scale and tried out the A minor cadence in the LH. This cadence is played in the B section of our new repertoire song, "Russian Sailor Dance." They won't practice the B section yet this week (they will get to practice their LH cadence on pg.7), but they will get to learn the first two lines of the A section. Be sure that their hands start in the correct position by checking the first note of each hand and the small fingering number. Check out the videos if you want a demonstration.
We drew a bass clef and did rhythmic dictation during our "Listen and Write" activity. It was neat to see them think hard about this new approach to dictation. You may un-band all 16 orange rhythm flashcards and work on those occasionally. Keep up the good work practicing the note flashcards and working hard to get faster and faster. I'm really impressed by everyone's hard work!
Like I said above, next week is parent day! We will have some extra fun celebrating Spirit Week! This week is special because we'll be celebrating Let's Play Music and this incredibly fun way to learn musicianship and play the piano. I'll even introduce a little studio contest that will run for a couple weeks and give you a chance to win some fun prizes!
The Let's Play Music company is also celebrating the LPM Spirit ALL MONTH by holding national contests on their Instagram page! Follow them @letsplaymusic_official to get the details on how to win. This week it's $200 prize to go toward tuition! There's also a monthly grand prize for 2 tickets to Disneyland!
Russian Sailor Dance
This song is ALWAYS a student favorite. Another great repertoire piece that reinforces ABA form, improvisations, and provides a study in legato and staccato themes. But it's the the accelerando at the end that will have your student BEGGING to practice it all the time!
Have you already found a private teacher for when your student graduates from Let's Play Music? It is best if you can meet in person with the teacher before the summer break to help the new teacher get to know your child's progress while its still fresh. Here is a great post on our Let's Play Music Blog with tips on how to interview and what to look for in a private teacher.
